Some songs are just songs. Others change everything. “Tamagotchis to Pokémon” was the first song ever written for ME & The Robots, and in many ways, it was the spark that set everything in motion.
Before this song, making music was just something to do for fun, something personal. But once this track came to life, it felt like more than that. It made me realise that if I loved it, maybe others would too. It was the song that told me this project shouldn’t just exist in my own world—it needed to be shared.

The Story Behind the Song
“Tamagotchis to Pokémon” is inspired by every underdog, every nerd, and every song that has ever told their story. For a long time, I felt weird about writing a song about high school, because, well… I’m not in high school anymore. But when I decided to create a music project where I wasn’t the focus of attention, something clicked. My writing didn’t have to be autobiographical anymore—it could be a story, something that lets anyone put themselves or their own characters into it while still feeling that nostalgic connection.
Instead of using metaphors or avoiding specifics, I wanted to be direct. Why not say “Pokémon cards” and “Tamagotchis” outright? These were real parts of my school days, and I knew others would remember them too. The positive reaction after its release showed me that this was the right choice—that people appreciated hearing a song that spoke to their own memories so openly.

Why an Acoustic Version?
The acoustic version of “Tamagotchis to Pokémon” strips everything back, making the song feel even more personal and intimate. With it being such a defining track for ME & The Robots, creating this version felt like the right thing to do. It lets the heart of the song shine through—the storytelling, the nostalgia, and the emotions that made it so special in the first place.
For so long, I had been trying to make pop punk that sounded like everyone else. But this song made me realise that the only way to stand out is to do something different—to embrace the unique stories only I could tell. And if that means getting criticism? Well, there’s no avoiding that anyway, so why not go all in?
This acoustic version is a tribute to where it all began—a reminder of why ME & The Robots exists in the first place. Whether you were there from the start or are just discovering the song now, I hope it takes you back to your own memories of school, of feeling like an outsider, and of the things that made those years special.
